We Welcome Your Child to Our Practice!
We are happy to welcome children as young as two years old to our family-centered dental practice in Rockwall, TX.
Like many parents, you may wonder why we need to see a child who still has all their baby (primary) teeth. The reason is that even though these teeth will eventually fall out, there’s a lot we can do to protect their current and future oral health. Prevention for children is every bit as important as it is for adults, and the result is a healthy, problem-free smile.
Treatments We Provide for Your Child
Dr. Jaspreet Randhawa has the experience to handle all your child’s basic oral health needs as well as several other conditions that commonly affect kids. Their experience with us begins with the all-important first visit.
Our team loves working with children, so you know your son or daughter is in good hands. We’ll do everything possible to make their first few visits with us enjoyable. At this age, little ones need gentle support and encouragement to ensure that each visit is a positive experience that builds on the last.
Dental Cleanings and Exams
When your son or daughter is comfortable with us, we will perform their first dental cleaning and exam. We’ll clean their teeth and look for signs of tooth decay in baby teeth. During these appointments, Dr. Randhawa will let you know if she thinks your child would benefit from dental sealants or fluoride applications.
If Dr. Randhawa finds a cavity, we will fill it with a tooth-colored filling. Filling cavities in baby teeth is essential because it keeps them strong and healthy until they are ready to come out on their own.
Baby Root Canal (Pulpotomy)
If your child has a large cavity in a tooth, it can be very painful. We don’t like to extract baby teeth unless absolutely necessary. Performing a root canal or pulpotomy relives your child’s pain and preserves the structure of the tooth.
Some children have a condition called a tongue-tie, in which the band of tissue (frenulum) between the tongue and the floor of the mouth is too tight or too short at birth. This condition restricts the movement of the tongue and can cause speech problems and difficulty eating. Dr. Randhawa uses gentle laser dentistry to remove the tissue band and allow the tongue to move freely.
There are some cases where extraction may be the best choice:
- Tooth decay is too extensive, and there’s no restorative option
- Space management in preparation for orthodontic treatment
- A baby tooth doesn’t fall out naturally before the permanent teeth are ready to emerge.
Baby teeth are placeholders for permanent teeth. If your child loses a baby tooth too soon, neighboring teeth start to drift into the open space and potentially lead to alignment problems.
A space maintainer is a tiny dental appliance that sits in the space left by the missing tooth and prevents teeth from shifting out of alignment.
Safe Nitrous Oxide Sedation
When your child visits a dental office, there’s a lot to take in. Some kids are curious and engaged while others are nervous and can’t get comfortable.
We want your little one to get the safe, comfortable care they need without stressing them out. Nitrous oxide is a gentle way to help your son or daughter calm down and relax while we provide the important care they need.
We Can’t Wait to Meet Your Child!
